Why Marriage Matters New Mexico is a grassroots public education campaign to build support for the freedom to marry in New Mexico. This campaign is about having conversations and sharing stories, showing that same-sex couples and their families should be welcomed and treated fairly in New Mexico. It is about opening hearts and minds throughout our state.
It is a discussion that allows New Mexicans in communities across the state to examine their attitudes, beliefs, and assumptions about gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people—to consider new information and perhaps reconsider old ideas. It is an opportunity to move a conversation forward about love, commitment, and family.
In New Mexico, this conversation has begun and it is time to raise significant visibility of same-sex couples and their families. A joint project of the ACLU-NM, Equality NM, the ACLU LGBT & AIDS Project, the National Center for Lesbian Rights, and Freedom to Marry, Why Marriage Matters New Mexico works with the All Families Matter Coalition, comprised of over 30 committed organizations that are invested in ensuring same-sex couples are treated with dignity and respect.
